Dear Boriss,
This morning, intrepid Azerbaijani investigative journalist Khadija Ismayilova became the 36th of 40 winners of PEN America's Freedom to Write Award to be freed from prison.

In the year since Khadija won PEN America’s award, your involvement in our advocacy efforts on her behalf—sending postcard appeals to the Azerbaijani embassy, signing on to our calls for her freedom, sending her holiday cards in prison, sharing cartoons of her situation on your social media—have helped us galvanize a global campaign for her release, making Khadija Ismayilova the most prominent dissident in Azerbaijan.

We are thrilled at the news that Khadija has been released on probation per a decision today by Azerbaijan’s Supreme Court. We will continue to fight for all charges against her to be dropped, but hope you will join us in celebrating this important victory as she walks free from jail in Baku.

Thank you so much for your support,
Suzanne Nossel
Executive Director
PEN America
